Stolen Money :-(

Today we learned that someone stole money from our apartment.  We had kept some savings in a vase in the window behind a curtain, and unfortunately, it seems that someone (or maybe there was more than one person) decided that they needed our money more than we did.

So we had to file a police report tonight and tomorrow I have to call the insurance company and file the report with them.  None of that will help replace the money (about $2000 USD) thought.  It i just administration.

At this point, because we have referred the matter to the police, it’s hard to say more.  However, what I can say is that my faith is somewhat shaken.  When you open your home to people, you expect certain behaviours and attitudes towards.  It’s a pity that kindness and generosity was absued.

I’m buying a safe tomorrow (maybe as an expensive lesson to be learned), but I am sad because in my own home I don’t feel like I should have to.

I can say one thing though…it will be a while before the kind and generous Rodney makes any kind of return.  His faith has been badly shaken.  It’s just now to try and understand whether the wound was mortal… 🙁

A Very Brady Thanksgiving

Well, as most of you know through my Facebook life, I wasn’t able to go to the US for Thanksgiving.  I guess I should have said that I was able to go home for Thanksgiving, but as one of my Swedish friends, Johan, pointed out, isn’t Sweden really my home now?  And so for the moment I accept this.  Sweden is home, even if my heart is back in Boston.

So anyway, staying in Sweden this Thanksgiving, I wanted to show some of the my Swedish friends what Thanksgiving is like back at my house.  So I decided to have a Thanksgiving dinner last Saturday.  I only had 6 places (and actually 4 since 2 of those places were taken by Alex and I), so I decided to invite Markus and Tomas, and Alex decided to invite Johan and his roommate Henrik.  It was especially cool to invite Henrik because he had never experienced Thanksgiving before.

So I took some pictures not of the entire night, but of the bird.  I think I did a really good job with the bird, considering I bought him deep frozen at 14.00 the day before dinner which was at 19.30 the next day.  So between the night de-frosting him, and waking up at 07.30 to get started with the stuffing and the pies (sweet potato and cherry), and thanks to Johan and Alex who assisted me throughout the day, everything went perfectly.  And everyone liked dinner too.  And then of course, we all went around the table and said what we were thankful for.  A good time was had by all.

So here are some before and efter pictures of the bird.  Some other pictures will be added as the gang sends them to me…and P.S.  I now have a new respect for the women in the house who did all of the cooking.  It is not easy stuff!  This was the last dinner party I will through this year.  So no more cooking posts for quite a while 🙂

A General Update

It has been a roller-coaster of a few weeks.  Secrets were finally revealed. Worries over potential health issues didn’t amount to anything.  My liver pleaded for a new host. Faith and Truth showed just how much stronger they are than Jealousy and Lies.  A new respect for the French was gained.  Some more respect for the US was lost.  And I learned to just let people who they are because they let me be me.  After all…to paraphrase Mark Twain…I can only be myself, everyone else is already taken…

And through it all, I was surrounded by people who love me — virtually, in reality, and in between.

Another Weekend Arrives

Just back from a quick-n-hard workout at the gym 🙂

So another weekend arrives.  In an effort for it to be not just another weekend, I decided to have a dinner party.  Ullis, Susie, Warren, Markus, and Alex will be there.  To be fair, Alex is helping with the preparations…doing more than a fair share of the work.

The dinner was finally decided on last night.  Grilled lamb chops with roasted garlic and oil with a spiced tomato sauce, a simple green salad, and gratinated potatoes.  The first course is tomato stuffed peppers.  And the dessert is a chocolate cake with coffee prepared to preference (long, espresso, cappucino, latte).  And of course a selection of drinks and snacks thoroughout the evening.

For sure we’ll go out afterwards 🙂  Should be fun!

Well I hope that everyone reading has a fantastic weekend and please keep in touch!  I am on Facebook now and not so much the others, so just look for Rodney Cornelius and friend me already! 😀

Stardust, Balloon Flights, and Tacos

Last night I went to the movies with Alex to see Star Dust with Michelle Pfieffer and Robert Di Nero.  I actually enjoyed it a lot and I didn’t think I would.  It was our best alternative to the Balloon Flight were were scheduled to take but got cancelled.  That sucked because I took the day off of work in order to take that balloon flight.  It was nice anyway though because Alex and I never get a lot of true free time together, and to have that time free on a week day was quite nice.

So overall yesterday was quite nice….and we had tacos for dinner which was also cool….
