I’m Cool! (or not)

I woke up this morning and screamed to myself “I have to fill out insurance forms!”

I have been a local here since June 2006. And there is paperwork. Glorious, glorious paperwork! (or not)

So after 4 hours of reading and research, I have completed most forms. But hey, at the of this experience I feel covered in most areas. Because like most Americans, I choose to be overinsured πŸ™‚

Apartment Coming Along Nicely

Yesterday Markus, Henrik (his brother), and I put up a new mirror. Well Henrik did most of the work. Thank goodness Henrik was there. Next week we will re-route some of the electricity. I am anticipating my new dining room table to come by the 27th. Exciting stuff. My chairs are here already so that is nice. Just found out that my new coffee table will come after my housewarming party. I bought a cheapo tv stand from Ikea, but it fits so no complaints.

And I also decided that I am going to have to renovate my apartment; however, I need to do it in the summer of 2007. Markus gave me some magazines for inspiration and actually we found a terrific color for the walls. I’ll also be installing some track lighting in the kitchen and floor lighting in the bedroom and changing the lighting in the hallway. All of this will be about 35,000 kronor (or 5,000 USD). But the value of the house will increase significantly once it is done. And for summer 2008, we’ll then move walls around πŸ™‚

Work is going well too. I think. I walk in every day thinking I will be fired. We’ll see. Just a feeling for no particular reason…

Underappreciated

I bought a new coffee table yesterday. It is called “vertigo” from some Italian designer…the trick is that the coffee table is based on mirrors designed in such a way that when you stare down at it, it looks like you are staring into infinity. I also bought some really nice plates, but only a set of 6. Really should get the other half for a set of 12, but will do that later.

Now all I need in terms of major furniture is a TV stand and some chairs for my dining room table. I hope to solve the chair thing in the next 2 weeks…it really bothers me. The TV stand thing too because the temporary solution is cheap (old moving boxes).

Stayed in this whole weekend…partly because Markus was away, also because I wanted a “weekend with me”. And I am traveling to Denmark again tomorrow and will be there the entire week. Was thinking about a weekend in Berlin, but may postpone that in order to save for my housewarming party…the theme…Bling Bling.

Back now to the theme of my post…underappreciated. I have fallen in love with John Mayer’s music. It’s rock yes, but it’s the kind that is made for lounging. I think he’s good.

Also, had a date yesterday. First time in a long time. I was drunk so I had fun.

A mid-week update…

I just have to say that this week is shaping up to be another crazy week. There are so many things that need to be done and I don’t know where to start. I managed to prevent my power from being turned off which is good. Now I just need someone to come and look at the refrigerator to get the ice-maker and water dispenser working. And then a conversation with the cable company to see what is going wrong.

i have been working from home the last 2 days and that has been nice. for lunch and coffee breaks i usually clean things up and then make an inventory of everything else i need. And my big new huge mirror came today. it is 160×160 and will be placed in front of the dining room table coming in 2 weeks. maybe tonight i will go out and get plates and chairs. i am not exactly sure yet. however, tomorrow i will be in copenhagen through friday so that ruins any plans to do shopping before the weekend.

At my gym membership expired and it will take some days to renew.

So far I am settling in…slowly but surely….

A Rollerskating Jam Named “Saturdays”

Today is All Saints day…and no I don’t mean the group All Saints….it meant that some of the places that I wanted to go to were closed. But I managed to visit the hardwear store and get some electrical things that I need for the apartment. I also managed to get in a couple of glasses of wine during the day. I have been in the house most of the day…cleaning up more boxes. I have managed to break down another 6 boxes which means that I am almost done. However, having no furniture means that some things I have left around the apartment for the time when the furniture comes.

I also set up my home computer today. That felt nice becaise it means I could connect my iPod and get new podcasts and things like that.

My apartment has another month until it is ready. I won’t have a house-warming party until near christmas or after the new year…just depends on when i make some final decisions.

and i talked to Caroline today and that was cool πŸ™‚

And now, dinner at Susie’s place in 45 minutes, so I have to scram so that I can get ready.

The Trauma of Furniture

So for those of you who don’t know, I moved into a new apartment recently. I have not had time to completely unpack because of work and travel, but I am almost there.  One of the biggest problems that I have had is trying to find furniture that makes me happy.

It took about 2 weeks to select a dining room table.  It is black fiber glass and just looks lovely.  I also ordered a mirror which I think is 160x160cm…it will go on the wall nearest the dining room table to give that “infinity effect”.  And a bought an Italian sofa that I absolutely love.  It is a great place to take a glass of pinot noir and listen to some jazz.

However happy I a with myself though, I have some things to buy.  For example, I need a piece of furniture that would serve as an appropriate entertainment center.  And I need a coffee table for the sofa. And my dining room table needs chairs.

I went to my favourite furniture store table to looked at chairs.  I was very confused so I decided to ask people around the store for their opinion.  Quite a few piped in.  The store employees thought it was funny because I was asking for help.  There are some really nice black leather chairs but they are 2000 kronor.  On the other hand, there are some really cool white chairs which will provide contrast to the table.  The black leather chairs are more elegant, but the white chairs are more comfortable.  And at the moment, I found some black almost-fiber glass plates, designed so nicely that it would seem that when I serve dinner you were eating off of the table.  But in the end I felt pressure at the store to make a decision, so I started to cry and settled on a toilet brush.  Stainless steel to match my stainless steel and wood design in the bathroom.

Tomorrow I will stop at another furniture store to look at a really nice coffee table for the sofa.  It is a different designer than the dining room table, but the table is georgous.

With regards to chairs and plates, I don’t feel right to make a decision yet…it seems like they the table should be in my house first and then I can make a decision.  My table will come in around November 20th.

Why is this shopping for furniture so hard?  Maybe another bottle of wine will solve this dilemma….

Happiness is getting broadband access of my very own. No more stealing it from the neighbors! πŸ™‚

Even more happiness would be if I could get wireless to work. and fine out whe the electricity outlets in 2 places still don’t function.

But happiness is also getting instructions on how to make ice water in my fridge.

Time to get drunk. It’s been a long week.
